James Earl Carter of Georgia served as president in the late 1970s. He won the Democrat party’s nomination as an underdog candidate. Is known for brokering a peace deal at Camp David, and was embattled by the Iran hostage crisis and a bad economy. He lost re-election in 1980 to Republican Ronald Reagan.
